Citrus Kit Class

Well its official we can start having in person classes so my very first class will be later this month and I thought I would start with a kit class. I love this all inclusive kit class and it just feel so much like summer. The stamp set is super cute and will be great to use in many different types of projects. For the class, the participants will be making fifteen cards but I of course had to make some alternative cards that show them how they can change things up with a few supplies. I was pretty happy with my five options and I wanted to show you one of the cards to get a taste of what the class would be like if you took it from me in person or online. So today's card is one of my favorite's and it really shows off the stamp set.

Let's start with going over the kit and its contents. As you see below you get a nice themed box to hold everything in or to decorate it up and give as a gift. You also get a stamp block, stampin spot in night of navy, fifteen card bases in three designs, die cuts labels, vellum flowers, two types of adhesives (stampin dimensionals, glue dots), and a great citrus themed stamp set. The colors in this kit are some of my favorite and have a nice summer theme. For the alternative cards I did add a few extra supplies to the kit for each of the participants but you truly could get the supplies from your scraps.

So below is the cards you make from the kit and the instructions are included in the kit to make the five cards.

They are simple and cute. Below is the card I am going to show you today and its is one of my 5 alternatives we will make in the class.

So how do you make it:

You first need to grab your supplies:

  • a 1 1/2 inch strips of in color pattern paper in just jade and misty moonlight
  • 2 inch strip of calypso corral, granny apple green, and daffodil delight
  • vellum flowers
  • hexagon label
  • the garden green watercolor card base
  • the die cut with full size lemons with flowers.
  • glue dots and dimensional
1. Step one is to take the card base and attach the die cut to the right of the card.
2. Take the hexagon label and the night of navy ink so you can stamp your label with the sentiment of your choice.
3. Now we are going to take our in color pattern paper and stamp out a few sets of leaves. Fussy cut those out and set aside.
4. Take your strips of cardstock and stamp out three citrus slices on each strip and stamp out three full size citrus on each cardstock.
5. You will then need to fussy cut out one full size citrus in each color for a total of three, and cut out one slice in each color for a total of three slices. You will take one slice and cut it in half to make a wedge.
6. This is where you will take all your pieces you have cut out and start assembling the card.
7. I used dimensionals to attach your label at the bottom of the pattern paper. Once you have done this you can start planning out how to arrange your fruit.
8. I wanted it to be a topsy turvy cascade around the sentiment and before I committed I made sure I tried out the placement first. You can take a picture of it so you remember it and this will make it easier to put together.
9. When I put it together I used glue dots to attach the fruit and leaves together first then added dimensionals to add it to the card. I then added the wedge with a half dimensional on top of the cascade for a bit more depth.
10. Finally I added the vellum flowers and then you can decorate the inside with the extra pieces.
I hope you enjoyed this quick tutorial and if you would like to take the online version please email me to register. Here is the link to register.

Splatter Technique

I promised you last week a tutorial on how to make splatters on your projects one of my favorite techniques. Last week my card featured the splatter technique which is a messy but fun way to add something extra to your card. So lets get started on the technique. Here it is on the card.

This technique is quite random in nature and is hard to control on the project so if you are a perfectionist this might not be the technique for you. You will want to protect your surfaces or find a box that you can splatter in so you don't wreck anything. Below is my splatter box and you can tell its quite loved and well used. I think of it as an art piece with all its color.

Instruction:
  1. Gather your supplies like your splatter box, cardstock, ink pad, aqua painter, and stamping block.
  2. Our ink pads are water soluble so they are perfect for this technique. What I do is take a stamping block and ink it up so you have some color to work with.
  3. Make sure you have a good bit of color on the block so you can work with it.
  4. Take your aqua painter and fill it with water and add some water on to the block from the aqua painter. Mix together  the ink and water to make a watery ink color. Make sure its on the brush.
5. I don't suggest splattering right on the card base but splatter on a card front. This is due to it getting on places you don't want or staining the card.
6. I splatter by taping the aqua painter on the side of my hand and the excess ink will splatter.

Here is the card base I did. It will dry fairly quickly and then you can work with it to complete the card. My favorite color to use is black but any color works. You can even use water soluble paint as well.

Here is another example of splatter.

Boho Indigo Product Medley

I love the color blue and when I saw the Boho Indigo Product Medley in the catalogue I knew I had to create with it. The paper is gorgeous with beautiful patterns that can be used for many different types of projects. This medley seems a bit pricey when you first look at the price but in fact you get a lot of product in the medley. Let's take a look at what is included with the medley:

You will get 6x6 paper including 48 sheets patterned paper, plus very vanilla embossed paper, vellum flowers, two rolls of ribbon, stamp set, dies, plus die cuts for $95.00. There is also an option to get a refill kit.

The catalogue also has some great ideas that you can recreate using the medley including memory keeping ideas.

I decided to sign up for my teams card swap this year and I had no idea what I should do for the card. I really liked the product medley Boho Indigo and was inspired to make some cute thank you cards for customers. I decided to make a my thank you cards using Bumble Bee because blue and yellow is a beautiful combo. You can see the version I made
below.

For my card swap I decided to make a brighter version using Magenta Madness mixed in with some bumble bee and Night of Navy.
Let's make this card.
Supplies:
  • Whisper white card base at 4 1/4 x 5 1/2
  • Whisper white card front cut at 4 x 5 1/4
  • scissors
  • Boho Indigo pattern paper cut at 2 inches
  • Magenta Madness in color pattern paper cut at 1/2 inch
  • whisper white scrap paper for die cutting
  • bumble bee cardstock for die cutting
  • night of navy, magenta madness, bumble bee, and crumb cake ink pads
  • in color enamel dots
  • aqua painter and stamping block
  • stampin dimensional, liquid adhesive
Instructions:
  1. Take your card front measuring 4 x 5 1/4 and splatter all over it. I will be doing another post on how to properly execute this technique. I used night of navy, bumble bee, and magenta madness on the card. Set it aside to dry.
  2. Now lets do our stamping using our ink pads. You will need to stamp a trio of flowers in magenta madness, the largest vase in crumb cake, one vase in bumble bee and one in night of navy.
  3. You can then die cut those stamped images out using the dies in the product medley. Also die cut some greenery in bumble cardstock.
  4. Your card front should be dry now and you can start attaching your pieces. Lets start by attaching the pattern paper to the card front using your favorite adhesive. Then take the filigree image and stamp just above the 1/2 inch pattern paper. Stamp all the way down.
  5. Before I start attaching the vases down I try to see what looks best so I can stamp the night of navy greenery for the crumb cake vase.
  6. You can now start adding the vases using stampin dimensional to give them some height. The night of navy vase has die cut greenery coming out. I attached the greenery to the vase before I placed it on the card. Add the trio of flowers with dimensionals to the front bumble bee vase.
  7. Now you can embellish it with the in color enamel dots or ribbon. Add your sentiment and decorate the inside of your card plus the envelope.
Here is a detailed image from the cards:
