Joy of Crafting: Cute Gift Box

For the longest time I have seen paper crafters online make such beautiful 3D items and I was always so envious about their ability to create them. I second guessed my ability to make them and I was really nervous about trying to put them together. I decided to try a simple design for my first try and I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought. I realized I loved making them and I am now making 3D projects weekly.

I am constantly looking for easy gift packaging I can make with paper and stamps on social media. I came across this project on our Demonstrator Planning Facebook page and I had to try it. I of course can't remember the demonstrator that posted the tutorial but her idea was genius. So let's get started on the project.

Its not easy to get a good picture of a 3D item so I did my best to get it at different angles so you could get a look at the box with all its details. To make the box I used the Celebrate Tidings Bundle which includes a stamp set and dies. Its a great set that can be used for multiple holidays and is made for gift giving.

Supplies:

Scoreboard
die cutting machine
scissors
paper trimmer
double sided tape
stamp blocks
glue dots
memento ink
early espresso ink
Stampin Dimensionals
Stampin Blend markers (Just Jade, Pumpkin Pie)
Crumb Cake cardstock cut at 6 3/8 x 8
Early Espresso Scrap to make lid
Pattern paper cut 3 7/8 x 2 3/8
Whisper White paper cut at 3 3/4 x 2 1/4
Crumb Cake scrap cut at 1/2 x 3
ribbon of your choice

Instructions:

Lets start by making the lid of the box with the Early Espresso Scrap paper. You will also take the largest die of the Celebrate Tiding dies run it through your die cut machine. The scrap will want to be at least 5 1/2 inches wide. I cut a 81/2 x 11 cardstock in half to make the lid.
Once you have cut the lid with your die cutting machine you will want to grab your scoring tool. Take the Early Espresso cardstock and score it at 1 inch on all four sides.
You are then going to use your scissors and cut on the score line to make four tabs. To do that you will cut on the two long score lines up to where they intersect the horizontal shorter score lines on all four sides.
You will have four small tabs. This is where you will take your double sided tape and place it on the tabs. You will then make the lid by placing the tabs on the inside to make a rectangle lid.
This is what the lid will look like after it is scored. You can see the tabs I mention above are made when the scores lines intersect.
Now that you have the lid completed you can now start on the bottom part of the box. Take your crumb cake cardstock and score it on all four sides at 2 inches.
You will want to now stamp on the box with the pumpkin stamp and use memento black ink if you are using stampin blends to color. Make sure that you line up the stamp set so it will look right side up when you make the box. I placed the pumpkins just above the score line on the long side of the box.
Color them in with stampin blends or whatever color medium you have.
Now its time to make the box. Take your box and you will see the four corners of the box. You will want to make four tabs by cutting on the score line up to the intersecting line.
Place the double sided tape on the tabs and form the box by placing the tabs on the inside.
Its time to decorate. Use your adhesive of choice to attach the pattern paper on top. I then took the whisper white cardstock and stamped the pumpkins twice on the paper. I colored them in and added early espresso ink around the cardstock with a dauber to add a bit of distressing.

13. I added the whisper white piece with stampin dimensional on top of the pattern paper. I then took the scrap of crumb cake and stamped the sentiment and used the banner punch on the sides to add some detail.
