Altenew Layering Class 2

Sorry for the lapse in posting but summer is in full swing in Saskatchewan and with our short season everyone is outside enjoying the weather including myself. I managed to get this card completed on one of the rainy days in June but I didn't get to posting it before we left for the lake. For me this card represents summer so I thought it was fitting to post it now. I love the bright colors, the roses which in Saskatchewan are blooming right now and of course the sentiment which represents summer. My daughter liked this card as well and gave it to her teacher at the end of school year.

To make this card I used the Altenew Vintage Roses stamp set. Which is a layered stamp set but one that I had to practice a bit before getting confident on. This set makes some very realistic and beautiful roses but to get the crisp impression I had to work at getting my alignment right. I am a perfectionist so I wanted the layers to be perfectly placed. The layering guide which is online really helps that and I encourage you to print it out before using the set.

To start the card I started with a Close To My Heart white cardbase which measured 41/4 by 51/2. I wanted to try using stencils for a background and found the Carta Bella wood grain stencil which would make for a great rustic background. Of course I didn't want it to rustic so I decided to add some shimmer and girly touches by using Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist in Wedding Pink. I wish I would not of used the stencil right on the base but on a separate piece of cardstock because I did have some leakage into the inside that I had to fix later. To make sure the stencil and card base didn't move I taped both down with washi. I took my glimmer mist and shook it up so the glimmer was well mixed and then spritzed it over the stencil. I dabbed the excess off with paper towel so it did not leak through when I took it off. I then immediately cleaned the stencil with a baby wipe and let the card base dry.
While the card base was drying I started stamping my roses out using Altenew mini cubes in the following colors: Golden Sunset Cube set, Cherry Blossom Set, Enchanted Garden, Tea Party, Cool Summer Night.
After everything was dry it was time to make the wreath of roses. To start with I used a ruler to find the middle of the card base and  then split the card in four quadrants. At each of the four lines I placed a large colored rose and then just filled in the rest with smaller roses and leaves to make the wreath. I wanted a larger sentiment so I used the Simon Says Stamp set Hello Darling that reads Sending Sunshine Your Way.

To complete the sentiment I took CTMH black cardstock and stamped the sentiment in Versafine clear ink and embossed it with princess gold embossing powder from Ranger. I popped up the sentiment on the card. My tip for the day is don't forget the inside of your card and the envelope. They also need some embellishment.
I always like to stamp a sentiment in the inside and to add some bling or embellishment. I had some leftover flowers so I added that to the card. I wanted color and a simple sentiment so you could still add a personal message on the inside.
