New Catalog

I love Fall. I love everything about fall including pumpkins, hayrides, harvesting, back to school, and sweater weather. Growing up a farm girl in Saskatchewan I loved when the crops turned and it was time for harvest. I enjoyed sitting in the combine with my Dad going around and around for hours. This year's fall catalog reminds me about those times with the beautiful fall colors and the masculine feel to the hawthorn paper packets. If you are seeing this its September 1st and the new catalog is now available for customers to order another thing I love about fall. Well let me tell you the catalog is great and their actually is two of them another bonus. CTMH has made some changes to how they are running things with the catalogs so hopefully this will be a good change. What they have decided is to have a yearly catalog or core catalog that will be valid for a year and the other catalog will be changed out every two months. The smaller catalog will have the specials in it along with the B&T papers. So here are the covers for the two catalogs:

Another new thing for the catalog is the change in the color of the year. We now are featuring Julep as our color of the year. Julep will now come in our inks, glitter paper, glitter gems, shimmer brushes, paper and ribbon.

Another awesome new things is the new subscription kit. We have the scrapbook kit and now have a card kit that is available to be delivered directly to your door. I will have more details in a separate post.

Over the next few months I will be featuring stamps and other goodies from the catalog in my post with more detail but I wanted to highlight some of the new changes. If you would like to order you can click the link at the top of my blog.

Fall Dollar Tree Haul

I love fall and when I went to my local Dollar Tree I found some great fall décor. After watching some of my favorite youtubers I was inspired to make some inexpensive fall décor. Here is my haul video with all the great goodies I bought and I can't wait to get in my craft room and create. The great thing about a lot of these items are they can used just as is due to the good quality but of course I need to change some of them. In the coming weeks I will be posting videos and pictures with my creations.

Not 2 Shabby

The kids have had a couple of birthday parties this summer so I have gotten to play with some cute stamp sets from Not 2 Shabby. This card was made with the Unicorn Dreamland and Unicorn Magic stamp sets.
Whenever I am going to start a card I always begin with a good card base and envelope. I prefer to use the Close to My Heart card bases which come with envelopes. I love the quality, the fact that they are not to thick, and are an A2 size. I then opened the card and taped it with washi tape on my mat so I wouldn't have it moving around while I was working.

I decided to stencil right on top with distress oxide ink from Tim Holtz. If you are going to put unicorns on a card there has to be a rainbow of colors. So I used Salty Ocean, Cracked Pistachio, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, and Picked Raspberry to make that rainbow. To put the colors on the card I used the makeup brushes from Amazon which are amazing. Yes those are rose gold handles. I love rose gold. The stencil I used is the splatter stencil from Altenew. There stencils are superior quality and are not flimsy at all. Totally worth the money. Also I used washi tape to hold my stencil down.

My tip for the post is when you clean the stencil afterwards you can just use baby wipes or some soapy water. The Costco brand wipes seem to be the best to clean stamps or stencils with in my opinion.
I then stamped the images with Archival black ink from CTMH which is good for coloring with alcohol markers because it does not bleed. I have the Spectrum noir alcohol markers so that is what I used to color in the images.

I brushed them with the Clear Shimmer Brush pens from CTMH for a little sparkle. One thing I do if I know I will be using the stamp often is to take a 12 x 12 white cardstock and stamp the images multiple times. I can then color them in as needed or when I am in a coloring mood.  I arranged the images on the card and used foam adhesive to pop them up.
I then worked on the inside of the card and the envelope.

Everyday Life Special

A  Close to my Heart special going on now. This is a great way to get into scrapbooking and a simple program using the 3-2-1 method. In the kit you will get enough papers and embellishments to do ten pages in a 6x8 album. You will also get the memory protectors but will have to purchase the album separately. This kit uses the craft on papers and is a cute set for a girl. If you purchase this kit the cutting guides will be sent to you and I will also show you how to use this method with any paper pack. I will post some great ideas for embellishments to take it to the next level. A great gift for Christmas. Click the link below for more information.

Altenew Layering Class 2

Sorry for the lapse in posting but summer is in full swing in Saskatchewan and with our short season everyone is outside enjoying the weather including myself. I managed to get this card completed on one of the rainy days in June but I didn't get to posting it before we left for the lake. For me this card represents summer so I thought it was fitting to post it now. I love the bright colors, the roses which in Saskatchewan are blooming right now and of course the sentiment which represents summer. My daughter liked this card as well and gave it to her teacher at the end of school year.

To make this card I used the Altenew Vintage Roses stamp set. Which is a layered stamp set but one that I had to practice a bit before getting confident on. This set makes some very realistic and beautiful roses but to get the crisp impression I had to work at getting my alignment right. I am a perfectionist so I wanted the layers to be perfectly placed. The layering guide which is online really helps that and I encourage you to print it out before using the set.

To start the card I started with a Close To My Heart white cardbase which measured 41/4 by 51/2. I wanted to try using stencils for a background and found the Carta Bella wood grain stencil which would make for a great rustic background. Of course I didn't want it to rustic so I decided to add some shimmer and girly touches by using Tattered Angel Glimmer Mist in Wedding Pink. I wish I would not of used the stencil right on the base but on a separate piece of cardstock because I did have some leakage into the inside that I had to fix later. To make sure the stencil and card base didn't move I taped both down with washi. I took my glimmer mist and shook it up so the glimmer was well mixed and then spritzed it over the stencil. I dabbed the excess off with paper towel so it did not leak through when I took it off. I then immediately cleaned the stencil with a baby wipe and let the card base dry.
While the card base was drying I started stamping my roses out using Altenew mini cubes in the following colors: Golden Sunset Cube set, Cherry Blossom Set, Enchanted Garden, Tea Party, Cool Summer Night.
After everything was dry it was time to make the wreath of roses. To start with I used a ruler to find the middle of the card base and  then split the card in four quadrants. At each of the four lines I placed a large colored rose and then just filled in the rest with smaller roses and leaves to make the wreath. I wanted a larger sentiment so I used the Simon Says Stamp set Hello Darling that reads Sending Sunshine Your Way.

To complete the sentiment I took CTMH black cardstock and stamped the sentiment in Versafine clear ink and embossed it with princess gold embossing powder from Ranger. I popped up the sentiment on the card. My tip for the day is don't forget the inside of your card and the envelope. They also need some embellishment.
I always like to stamp a sentiment in the inside and to add some bling or embellishment. I had some leftover flowers so I added that to the card. I wanted color and a simple sentiment so you could still add a personal message on the inside.
